North Herts Ramblers Group
North Herts Ramblers is the local walking group of the Ramblers. Our volunteer leaders organise a walk every Saturday and Sunday, some all day, some half day, with central meeting points in either Stevenage or Hitchin. From there we share cars to the start point of the walk itself. Sometimes we go further afield: perhaps to London or to Cambridgeshire. In addition to these walks, every Saturday we organise a morning “Dogs Welcome” walk, usually setting off from a local pub. Also popular are the many walking holidays we organise. Recent examples include a week on a Greek island, and a weekend in the Peak District. Join us and you automatically become a member of the nationwide Ramblers Association, with its many benefits, including the right to join a walk with a local group anywhere in the country. Training courses on map reading, navigation and walks leadership are also available to members.
Stevenage Leisure 50 Group
Stevenage Leisure 50 Group was set up several years ago as a small walking group for the over 50s in Stevenage, but has now grown to a much larger group. The group is run by volunteer walks leaders, and there is no fee to join. Leisure 50 walk throughout the whole of the year, meeting on alternate Tuesdays, offering three different lengths of walks, Long, Medium and Short. During the summer, we may add an Ambles Walk designed specifically for those persons who are or have been suffering from various disabilities. For the more active members, we also offer the chance to go away for a week’s walking holiday somewhere else in the UK, such as Eastbourne and the Isle of Wight. The programme is available in the Stevenage Library, the Stevenage Leisure Centre, or from Terry Ingle.
Stevenage Health Walks Group
The Stevenage Health Walks Group began in early 2010, offering walks within Fairlands Valley Park. Each week there is a 30-minute and a one-hour walk available, with the option of a first steps walk for new walkers just starting out. There is a core weekly attendance of walkers, who enjoy these and monthly longer walks around the local area. Since its inception there have been a number of volunteer leaders trained, who run the weekly programme of walks. The programme continues to grow and develop as more people become involved.
