Everyone knows of Wikipedia but there is an interesting mode for us - 'nearby' where giving permision to identify your location, wikipedia displays a whole lot of 'W' signs on the map near your location, effectively identifying points of interest and provides information, history etc about them. The app can be found on the Google Play Store here for Android devices, and on the Apple App Store here for iOS devices.
